A Day in Naples

Today was our one and only day in Naples, but was still packed with things to do and see. We took an early train out of Pompeii and then headed to our hostel straight from the Naples Central Station. We had the hostel do a baggage hold and then walked about a mile to the first meeting point for our first tour. We got to learn all about the underground aqueduct in Naples and how it was a makeshift bomb shelter during WWII.
Afterwards we stopped for a small snack where I experienced Rocco Babá which was a layered treat in a cup with pastry soaked in rum, chocolate based rum, and a sweet cream. Wasn’t really my cup of tea, but I don’t know until I try! Then we continued onward to our next meeting point for the next tour. On our way we saw a beautiful mall center type place along with a castle. Eventually we got to the San Gaudioso Catacombs where we learned all about the catacomb process (which can be different for each set of catacombs, I learned) along with seeing some of the remains. We learned that it was also a makeshift bomb shelter during the war just as the aqueduct was. We even had a little furry friend accompany us on the tour (there is a church cat that slipped past the guide and into the catacombs with us).
Afterwards we checked into the hostel officially and then chilled in our room before heading to the supermarket around the corner to find a small snack for dinner. Tomorrow will be a very early morning for our 3 hour train to Rome. We’ll be in Rome for a few days at least, so stay tuned!
