Amsterdam/Belgium

Today was our day trip to Bruges, Belgium. We figured after the flight change in Copenhagen causing us to lose a day in Copenhagen that we might as well make up for it by adding a day trip to another country while in Amsterdam! Bruges is just over the country borders (some even still consider Bruges part of the Netherlands). We got up a little later than what we’ve been used to and walked to Central Station (which would’ve put NYC Central Station to shame) and met up with the tour. We then loaded onto the coach bus and took the 3.5 hour journey to Belgium. When we got there, we had an optional walking tour with a guide (we did not do it) and then we got a little over 5 hours to explore and do whatever we would like in the small town. We were handed maps that had some key points to check out, which included a Belgium chocolate tour (which was very similar to Lindt on a much smaller scale, but still contained free chocolate) and the worlds only Fry museum (which is all about potatoes and how French fries came about). After the 2 museums we walked around a little and took a look at some chocolate shops and waffles. Of course, being in Belgium, we had to get Belgium Waffles. They were absolutely amazing. I got mine plain to truly taste how their waffles are versus what we know them to be back in America and the difference was huge. After shopping, we met back up with the guide at the meeting point and made our way back to the bus to start the journey home. When we got back, it was almost 2100 but we wanted some more fries. We stopped at Friet Point again tonight as our dinner before heading back to the hostel to pack up everything and take a nap before having to get up at 0230 to get a taxi at 0300 for our flight to Paris. Amsterdam and Belgium were very enjoyable and I look forward to the last 4 countries of this 35 day adventure.
Going to another country in Europe - just like traveling from IL to WI for the afternoon. Ha!
