France, Day 2

Well. Today was one of those days where from the moment you wake up, every thing falls apart, little by little, throughout the entire day. It started with the USB port not working, so my phone died overnight and our alarm this morning never went off. We didn’t get up until almost 0900. We threw some clothes on and got breakfast right away. After breakfast we went back to the hotel room and showered and got dressed before heading out to get our rental car for the day. Got the rental car, and we quickly noticed something was wrong with it. We pulled over and tried to call Enterprise on 6 different numbers, but no help was in sight. After 3.5 hours, a tow truck was able to pull us off the side of the merge to get onto highway where we pulled over due to the smoke coming from our hood and the fact that the car was not accelerating. The tow truck got us to an apartment complex where we waited even more for some kind of answer from enterprise regarding any sort of help and we waited for our new vehicle (the tow guy said the clutch was absolutely shot and that he was surprised we got as far as we did). We waited and we waited and we waited. There was a security guard outside of the apartment building we now were parked in front of the apartment complex. He allowed us to use the restroom as well as speaking to a couple of drivers on the phone as there was quite the language barrier when we were trying to convey our current location to get an ETA on the roadside repair person as well as our new vehicle. We spoke to the same 4 people at least twice an hour. Finally, after 6 hours of waiting, we had enough. We were able to get assistance from CDG airport on creating a new reservation through Orly Airport. We got a French Uber and headed to pick up the new rental car. The men that helped us couldn’t believe the crap we had gone through and helped us in every way that they could. We finally set out a little before 1900 and got to the Château around 2130. We very much appreciated them waiting on dinner for us and I’m glad they did. The food was absolutely amazing. After eating and talking for a few hours, we were shown our building/room that we would be staying in and got all settled. We went to bed fairly quickly as we had to get up early in order to drive back to Paris for our flight at 1240 into Barcelona. Overall, Paris was beautiful and was pretty okay overall. I’d much rather go back to Bel Ébat in Assay and stay there next time.
That's awful you had to deal with the car issues. Not to mention a clutch issue... did you know it was a stick-shift or was driving around in 1st gear what caused the problem? 🤣 Seriously, though, I'm glad this has been the only big problem you've encountered during your trip. I hope the rest is all smooth sailing. (From what I've read, the next few days are good.)
