Today was long and adventurous. We started off at the Pompeii Ruins where we had a 2 hour long guide going through just a small fraction of a town that is much larger than most think. We got to see some Main Street markets (what’s left of them, technically) along with one of the theaters, the gyms, and some of the pools/baths that they had. It was easy to see that the Pompeii civilization was much more advanced in architecture and lifestyle than even some modern people are. It was definitely a site. Afterwards we took a van to Cantina Del Vesuvio where we had a wine tasting and lunch. The food was quite good and the wines (more dry than sweet) paired nicely with everything. After that we took yet another van to the horse stables. We got to horseback ride and see the restaurant’s vineyards while Vesuvius lingered in the back. We decided not to climb the volcano as it involved almost 2,000 steps just to get to the top and there was no easy way to access it. Nonetheless, it was a great set of tours that we booked. After getting back to Pompeii, we grabbed some gelato from one of the nearby cafes to enjoy a cold treat after a near 90 degree day in the sun. Tomorrow will be our one and only day in Naples where the only plans we have are a couple of catacomb tours. Here’s to a great start!
